The active compound in cannabis, and all its derived products, is THC.
THC is considered an hallucinogenic drug. You can have strong hallucinations at high levels of THC.

In these days, if you pick up a Christian fanatic, and fill him with LSD, he'll say:
"Jesus!! I Talked to GOD!!!"

Same thing happened back in those days. Those Muslim warriors, combined the pleasure and visions provided by the drug, with their strong religious beliefs, resulting in a stronger will to fight, and in an enhanced faith in Allah.

This does not necessarily mean that they went to war high on hash. I believe that this was some kind of religious ritual, performed before any agressive confrontation with their enemies.

Nowadays, regular hashish is not that stronger. It is full of chemicals and who knows what more. But back in those days, I suspect that regular hashish, would be fucking kick ass hashish today.
